If Iridium is not an option, could Flight Focus link the Advanced Mission Display System(AMDS) with ACARS?
Flight Focus provides Iridium connectivity as a standard, which does not create any ongoing cost to airlines if not utilised. This only deprives the airline of the capacity for global communications coverage. The Advanced Mission Display System (AMDS) architecture is such that existing ACARS usage is not affected, either technically or commercially. Existing ACARS and Advanced Mission Display System (AMDS) Iridium can co-exist without any additional baseline costs, or commercial implications. So if a customer has an existing relationship with ARINC or SITA for ACARS, it is possible to retain this arrangement, and deploy the Advanced Mission Display System (AMDS) in parallel. However, technically interfacing the Advanced Mission Display System (AMDS) to ACARS involves a high cost with no additional functional benefits. Flight Focus is able to provide separate pricing plans for an Advanced Mission Display System (AMDS) solution with and without the Iridium network option.
