Yes, I think. It’s my understanding that Live doesn’t work on modded Xboxes because the Live Servers actively ban your gamertags if you are running a modded Xbox, as people could use a modded Xbox to hack up an online game and exploit the gameplay… I.E., make them invicible, give them unlimited ammo, etc. A normal network game isn’t, of course, connected to Live, so the Live Servers can’t do anything to your Xbox. A2: Yes, you can, as long as you use the software method, or use an “xbox bios” ie, one that allows the playing of xbox games atall. Using the software method, Linux boots from the CD or hard drive the same as any xbox game. If connected to LIVE, you will be instantly banned (though on Halo2 you can still play custom games on live, just not matchmaking MOST of the time) if using ANY modded content. LIVE now actually checks your hard drive for modded files. If you use linux, you WILL be banned, however, it does not affect network play atall.
