The condom is a much more reliable method in itself than the withdrawal method. However using two methods together generally reduces the chance of pregnancy. However, if using the withdrawal method with a condom you must take extra care that the condom is held in place on the penis during withdrawal. This is not going to be easy. If there is a chance that the condom gets left behind this could result in less protection than condoms alone would give. If you have already made the decision to use the withdrawal method then using a condom as well will almost certainly increase protection. The withdrawal method is generally poor, so just switching to spermicidal condoms instead and using them carefully would also be a more reliable and much less stressful method.
