If I test positive for herpes 1 and negative for herpes 2, could I have genital herpes?
If you test negative for HSV2 then you do NOT have they type of herpes that typically causes genital herpes. You have HSV1 genitally, but any type of herpes that occurs south of the boarder gets called genital herpes.. Cold sores are caused by the oral type of herpes, they can affect the genitals as well if oral sex is given while your boy friend has a cold sore. Cold sores are very contagious while there are any signs of an out break and they can be passed to the genitals during oral sex. This is most likely why you have cold sores down stairs. As for out breaks, it’s different for every one that has herpes so it’s hard to predict if you will have out breaks or not. This could be your only out break or you could have out breaks every couple of months. I contracted herpes the same way you did.
