If I start a website and sell ad space, do i need a business and all that jazz?
You don’t specifically need a ‘business’ to run websites. You can trade under your own name in Australia as a business but you will need to obtain an ABN for taxation purposes. The ABN can be registered against your own name rather than a business name. It allows you to trade products/services and not have tax withheld by others who pay you. Having a business plan is really useful. Why? Because it enables you to define what your online business actually IS and what you aim to achieve. Internet Marketing and e commerce is a massive industry. Getting clear on what you want to achieve with your website will save you heaps of time in the long run.
