If I send an HTML message and the recipient is not able to view this format, will the message be switched to text format? Is it possible to determine what format recipients can read?
There is no easy way to determine what recipients can read, although all AOL addresses for example are better off receiving just text, since pre-6.0 versions apparently can’t read much else. But this is not done automatically, you would currently have to keep track of both lists with some field of your choice, and send two separate mailings to the two groups. Some similar services offer automatic html-to-text conversion of messages, but we haven’t yet found a tool that does an acceptable job in all cases, it is still preferable to have the user submit his/her own html and text versions. What many users do, however, is compose their messages in a mailer such as MS Outlook for example, which can construct an HTML message with a built-in text alternative, for those mailers that can’t read the html.
