If i have thermostatic valves on my radiators do i need a central room thermostat or not?

As Foobix pointed out it is now in the regulations for new installations. However, we tried thermostatic valves without a room stat and although it worked OK we found there were times when, for instance, we wanted to leave the heating on a low setting and it is not practical to run round the house changing each rad valve. They don’t argue with each other as some plumbers used to say they did. Well worth the small expense.

The answer is yes. Thermostatic valves can shut automatically and still leave the pump running which can lead to noise and system damage.

No! the idea of thermostatic rad valves is to cut the costs of heating bills, You dictate the temperature of rooms which could all be different depending on the use of the rooms.

the thermostat tells the boiler it is cold or hot so you do need one but it should be normally in a hallway or main room where it gets an average temp . the thermostats on a rad only allow THAT radiator or room temp to be affected.NEVER install thermostatic valve in same room as the thermostat. They fight each other and confuse the boiler system . check it out on a plumbing site.
