If i have been having irregular periods, would that make ovulation sporadic as well?
The day of ovulation can change in each cycle. Anything can affect ovulation: stress, illness, travel, holidays, anything different. Your luteal phase is the day after ovulation until the day before your period. It is a contant length in each cycle. Luteal phases range in length from 10 – 16 days- it is different for each woman. No matter what day you ovualte on, your period will arrive the same number of days afterwards. So your period is never actually late unless, it goes past your normal luteal phase length. For example, I have a luteal phase of 12 days. I ovulate usually between day 11 and day 14 of my cycle. Regardless of what day, I ovulate on my period starts 13 days later. My cycles range in length from 23-26 days. Last cycle, I ovulated on day 13, my luteal phase was 12 days long; that cycle lasted 25 days. I got my period the next day.
