If I had a previous pinhole leak repaired with plastic pipe, will Copper Knight still work?
Yes, but the plastic pipe must be bypassed in order to maintain electrical conductivity throughout the piping system. This is accomplished in one of two ways: I. If the abandoned pipe was left in place, you may bypass it by using two sets of grounding clamps and wire to electrically re-attach the two ends of the abandoned (pinholed) piece of copper pipe to the two ends of copper pipe where it is now connected to the plastic pipe. A length of copper wire inserted between each pair of grounding clamps completes the electrical connectivity. Bypassing plastic pipe in this way requires two grounding clamp kits. II. If the abandoned pipe has been removed and/or if you have easy access to the entire length of the plastic pipe, you may bypass it by attaching one ground clamp to each copper end (where it meets the plastic pipe) and connect these with the wire. This method requires only one set of Grounding Clamps. You may purchase the Grounding Clamp Kits on the Products page of this website.
