If I defer my student loan once.. can i defer it again at a later date?

There are different rules about deferment, so you will have to talk to your lender(s) and apply for hardship possibly. Another option that many people do is consolidation of student loans so that you have only 1 payment, and generally you get a lower interest. Note: You can only consolidate once, so if you pick a 5 year plan you will get a better rate, but if you can’t afford the payments you can not consolidate again. I’m about to go through all of this soon and it’s a mess, so I feel your pain, but the best way is to call and ask, because there are only two things that will wipe out student loans. 1) Paying them off 2) Death! Good luck, and enjoy NYC…..it’s the best place on earth.
