If I defer my course because I want to work for a year and get independent status for Centrelink, or I get sick and can’t enrol, can I defer my scholarship to next year, before I have started?

No. If you cannot accept the scholarship and enrol immediately for that semester, you will have to decline the scholarship and re-apply with a full application next year. If you have already accepted the scholarship, the University will withdraw the scholarship offer if you defer your course. (For HYG, ask for advice from the Scholarships Unit.
