If I complete the ExAC and I want to become an architect (first time registration) in a province that does not offer the ExAC, do I have to take the ARE?
Yes. If you are seeking first time registration in a province that does not offer the ExAC (BC), then yes you would be required to write the ARE. If however, you are a registered intern in a province offering the ExAC and you seek first time registration in that particular proviince, then you will be eligible for registration in all other Canadian provinces under the Canadian reciprocity agreement. Note also, that the TILMA agreement (trade and mobility agreement between Alberta and BC) also expedites and supports cross provincial registration between Alberta and BC.
