If i broke a thermometer, how could i collect the poisonous mercury?
Most modern thermometers use alcohol not mercury. Breaking a thermometer would yield very little mercury/alcohol and would be a stupid and dangerous thing to do. You’d be better of sourcing the mercury from somewhere else – it would be cheaper, safer and easier although I can’t think of why you’d need to have any mercury……… ( ? ) Here’s what a website says about mercury All mercury spills, regardless of quantity, should be treated seriously. Metallic mercury slowly evaporates when exposed to the air. The air in a room can reach contamination levels just from the mercury in a broken thermometer – just a few drops. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/5762.php If you do want to dispose of the mercury, wear rubber gloves and a disposable face mask. Wipe it up using a cloth and put the cloth in a bag. Wash your hands well and contact your local authority on how to dispose of it.
