You must petition to become an inactive member of the State Bar to be relieved of membership fees and CLE obligations. You must complete and file a petition with the membership department of the State Bar entitled “Petition for Transfer to Inactive Status (available on the Forms page). See 27 NCAC 1D, Rule .0901.
