If faith is all important to find the truth, does faith in anything make it true?
Wow. That’s an excellent way of putting things. If faith without proof is enough to make something true, then yes, faith makes things true. At least for the person who believes them. I knew someone who used to say, “There’s what’s true, and there’s what’s true for you.” Let’s say I’m afraid of clowns. If I believe that every time I say the word “Bozo,” a clown will appear, I will live my deliberately avoiding saying the word “clown.” It doesn’t make it true that a clown will appear when I say the word “Bozo.” But my behavior will be the same as if it were true. Now, let’s say I believe a clown will appear when ANYONE says the word “Bozo.” Not only will I alter my own behavior as if it’s true, I will also seek to control OTHER people’s behaviors as if it is true. This is where evangelicals cross the line. They’re welcome to live their lives (alter their behaviors, limit their actions and speech) based on what they believe is true.
