IF AT&T and SBC are already offering services, why would the TriCities want to get into this?
We have an advantage over other towns – an infrastructure in place to support such a broadband network. It’s just a logical evolution of where the TriCities are at now. We have high-tech facilities around us in Fermi Lab and the DuPage Airport High-tech Park that employ visionaries in their fields. It would be inexcusable not to explore the options. We have a responsibility to look ahead…to look beyond the TriCities…. to look to the big picture. The fact, pure and simple, is this: the TriCities are underserved when it comes to telecommunications, specifically high-speed internet access. Most locations cannot get high-speed internet access via DSL, and no locations in the TriCities are served by cable modems (though this will be changing, at least in Batavia s case, in the near future).
