If any member of an assisted family household is unable to provide the PHA with a Social Security Number (SSN), what is HUDs prescribed procedure for verifying information?
As defined in 24 CFR 5.216, PHAs are required to verify a complete and accurate SSN assigned to the applicant and to each member in the applicant’s or participant’s household, who is at least six years of age, to determine eligibility for assisted housing benefits. In the event an applicant or participant, who is at least six years of age, has not been assigned an SSN, the household member (or guardian, if the member is under the age of 18) must execute a certification that states the household member was not assigned an SSN.
