Hospitals should always pursue payment for medical care from every reasonable source, governmental and private, and it is important to keep in mind a liability insurer may pay a patient’s charges in full. However, there is no requirement for a hospital to document that a source of liability coverage does not exist prior to writing an eligible account off to HCAP.
