They never were FOR America. They only wanted power and America helped them get it. They want total domination in their territory and America is against their restrictions on freedoms that should be enjoyed by citizens living in those territories. They want America out so they are free to dominate and then expand their power to their neighboring communities.

America helped them by paying them for helping to fight the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. When the Russians withdrew, the Americans stopped payment.
