If all slaughter of horses for human consumption were stopped, what would happen to the unwanted horses?
Not much. There are over 9 million horses in the United States. A little over 1 percent are being hauled to death houses in Mexico and Canada this year. But, that 1 percent is more than 100,000 horses, each having begun life as a wobbly-legged colt, nuzzling its mother. Most of them were highly trained, and ridden with a bridle and saddle. 100,000 individual slaughters.
