If a teacher with QTS is employed to teach to cover planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time can this count towards induction?

A – Yes, provided there is consistent and regular teaching of the same classes. The teaching should have sufficient breadth to meet the standards and national curriculum requirements. In such situations the NQT should have a coherent timetable and induction programme that both the school and the NQT feel gives the support the NQT needs to meet the Standards, and provides the opportunities to show they are doing so. However, please bear in mind that a full time appointment covering PPA time for a wide range of classes is very demanding and challenging, and may not be the most appropriate appointment for an NQT.
