IF A STUDENT HAS STARTED A WORLD LANGUAGE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WHAT LEVEL SHOULD HE/SHE ENTER IN HIGH SCHOOL?
Shorewood French and Spanish teachers closely coordinate the curriculum so that the transition between middle and high schools is as smooth and non-threatening as possible. Each level, whether in middle or high school, uses the same text and completes the same number of units in the text, and there is continual review and repetition in levels 2 and 3. Typically, a student who has taken and completed Spanish or French I should plan to take Spanish or French II in high school. Students who have taken Spanish or French I and II should plan on taking Spanish or French III. We do NOT recommend that a student choose to repeat a level that he/she has successfully completed in middle school unless the middle school teacher recommends it. It s boring to repeat a course twice, particularly because all continuing levels of language study automatically include constant review along with new material.
