Pinky’s advice: I’m afraid it’s not possible to give a figure for the risk – it would depend on how big the hole was and many other factors. Statistically a spermicide reduces the chance of accidental pregnancy by a factor of about four – but there is still a real chance of pregnancy I’m afraid. I would strongly suggest considering an Emergency Contraceptive (sometimes called “morning after” pill) – in the UK these can be bought over-the-counter from a chemist for about 20 if you are over 16 yrs old, and you can get ECP’s free of charge at family planning clinics, NHS Walk In Centres, Brook Advisory Centres or your GPs surgery. You need to act quickly because they are more effective the sooner you take them – but they can be taken up to 72 hours after sex. Tip:Your GP’s receptionist will always give you an emergency appointment with a GP if you ring and say you need Emergency Contraceptive Pills.
