If a child is vaccinated for meningitis at age 11 years of age for the first time, do they need to be revaccinated when they go to college?
There are no recommendations at this time to revaccinate if the vaccine received was meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) and the only risk factor is being a college freshman living in a dormitory. If, however, the vaccine previously received was meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (MPSV), then a dose of MCV should be administered as long as a 5-year interval has elapsed since the MPSV dose.
