If a child 10 years or older has never received any DTaP or Td, what vaccine should be used for a primary series, Td or Tdap?
The child should receive one dose of Tdap now (only Boostrix can be used for a 10-year-old). This dose should be followed by a dose of Td 4 weeks later and a 2nd dose of Td 6 months later. The child will not need another routine Td for 10 years. You could give Tdap for any ONE of the 3 doses in the primary series, but it is preferred to give it as the first dose.
