Id like to resurface my laminate kitchen counter. Is it possible to glue the new formica top to the existing surface without removing the old formica?
Yes, however its important that you prep the surface. Use #400 fine sandpaper to sand down the old surface. Go over the surface with tack cloth to remove the dust and then follow up with a cleaning treatment using acetone. Once the surface is clean and dry you are ready to apply the cement. It comes with instructions, however its pretty simple to use. Just apply it evenly to both surfaces and allow it to dry. It may take an hour or more for it to fully dry. It must be dry to the touch on both surfaces. Otherwise it will not stick very well. Make sure you have it positioned correctly because you only get one shot at sticking it to the old surface. Once its stuck, ITS STUCK. One thing that I did to avoid this problem was to cut the piece of laminate to be bigger than the surface so once I got it into position I could use a router to trim the edge down nice and neat. You have probably thought this through, but I will say this for the benefit of those who are reading along with you- Formic
