I’d like to be an English teacher but my degree was in a different subject. Can I still do the Secondary English PGCE?
Not usually, as the entry requirement is a good honours degree (2:2 or above) or equivalent with at least 50 per cent in a subject relating to the subject you want to teach. We do take work/life experience into account, but you will need to demonstrate thorough subject knowledge. There is greater flexibility if you are interested in teaching one of the ‘shortage’ subjects.
