Ian, you favour a move to the Walkers Stadium. Why is that?
A view from the Crumbie Stand There are some negatives to Welford Road, although I do love it here. For example, the toilets aren’t great and some of the sight lines are a bit dubious, with grandstand posts in the way. But the biggest problem Welford Road has got is its size and inability to expand… we’re looking at spending more money to put in an extra 2,000 seats than we would have to spend in buying half the Walkers Stadium. The Tigers are selling out every week and for the last three years we have not been able to bring new people into the game. People want to come and see the best rugby team in the northern hemisphere, but they can’t get in because no seats are available. Walkers is the most sensible option to develop the game and grow as a club. A lot of people on the terraces talk about Walkers lacking atmosphere? Walkers Stadium is blue and white There’s a worry that 18,000 or 19,000 people in a 32,000-seater stadium won’t feel anything like the same as 17,000 people packed
