I would like to try some plants (Halimeda, Penicillus, Udotea). Should I go with an undergravel or no, and what substrate depth/composition would you suggest?
>>From what I understand, deep sand beds can be problematic in very small nanos. But, in a 20 gallon it’s the method I would suggest, 3″-4″ would be the depth I recommend, using Aragonite fine grained sand. As I also understand it, some Home Depot’s sell something called “Southdown” sand. This product is highly sought after, apparently it’s the same as Aragonite, but more reasonably priced.
