I would like to study abroad for a semester or an entire academic year. Where are such opportunities available, and where can I get further information?
The first step is to contact the Study Abroad Office within the Office of International Education. They maintain a listing of institutions with which CMU has experience in placing exchange students. The college of engineering has formal exchange programs with technical universities in Monterrey, Mexico and in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Study Abroad Office can provide you with information on those programs, or help to construct an alternative exchange program for which you can receive academic credit at Carnegie Mellon. In planning a schedule, please be aware that the MCAT should be taken in August of the sophomore year, or in April of the junior year. In this group, the only courses you might consider delaying until your senior year are the laboratory courses. However, you should be aware that the material covered in these courses may also be helpful in the MCAT.
