I would like to start going to a gym to help me lose weight. How many days a week should I workout and is there any particular pattern I should follow in my workouts?
Before embarking on any fitness program, consult with your physician. To get fit and lose weight, there are some basic principles to follow: concentrate on any aerobic exercise, such as walking, jogging, cycling that is continuous and uses large muscle groups. Attempt at least 10 minutes to start and add another minute every one or two workouts until you reach at least 20 minutes and consider 30 or more. Workout at least three days weekly, and at an intensity that you would consider “somewhat difficult”. To avoid relapse, choose an exercise that you enjoy, and perhaps change the type of exercise periodically. Remember, the most important principle is regularity. Without a consistent effort, your results will be nonexistent or minimal at best.
