I would like to be able to work in a school library media center in Illinois, but I do not have a teaching certificate. Can I obtain my teaching certificate through a program at GSLIS?
Yes, the combined M.S./K-12 LIS Certification Program is designed to equip students with both a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science and a Type 10 (K-12) Illinois Teaching Certification as a Library Information Specialist. The program requires 40 hours of required LIS coursework, 4 education courses, a 100-hour practicum, 16 weeks of student teaching, an electronic assessment portfolio, and passing scores on both the LIS Content Area test and the APT test. A passing score on the Illinois Basic Skills test is required for admission into the program. The Illinois Certification Testing System administers all of the tests.
