I would like a healthy lawn but right now it is real bare. What is the best grass to plant in areas that get very little sun?
A. One of the shade tolerant St. Augustines might survive in your low light areas. Varieties you should consider include Bitterblue, Delmar, Palmetto and Seville. Some shady spots may have too little light for even these selections. You might try planting a few trays of plugs in the shady spots this spring. If the grass seems to be spreading in a month or two you can complete the planting with more plugs or sod. If the grass fails to grow properly consider an ornamental ground cover for the shady areas.
