I wish to become registered as a psychological associate. Does the required four years of post-masters degree experience have to take place in Ontario?
No, the experience can be undertaken in any jurisdiction. The Guidelines require that the work be relevant and at least two years must be completed under the supervision of a regulated member of the profession. Relevant work experience includes the provision of psychological services under supervision and the provision of mental health services that are related to the practice of psychology. Work acquired in the course of independent private practice will not normally be considered acceptable. If there is evidence that the work experience was carried out in an unprofessional, incompetent, or unethical manner, it will not be accepted.
