I was slightly surprised to notice that they always appeared to be in about the same position every night – never more than a couple of feet away from their normal position. Is this usual behaviour?

Yes. Because they don’t feed, they conserve energy as much as possible and their activity is restricted to crawling up a grass stem each evening, then descending after a couple of hours if they haven’t mated. They spend the day in the understorey then go up again, either the same stem or a nearby one, in the evening.

What is your question?

*Sadly, we had to bring back ads too. Hopefully more targeted.
