I was just wondering if a person was to move to the Banff area, how good would the chances of finding work and a place to live be?
The main economy in Banff comes from tourism, so as with most places in the recent tough economic times things have changed slightly in Banff. There are always help wanted signs as there are always people coming and going, but don’t take it for granted that you will be able to find a job your first day after arriving in Banff. Do your research, contact employers before you arrive, and update your resume as you may be pounding the pavement for longer than expected. Finding a place to rent can also be challenging. Having references is a good idea, but with the transient nature of a resort town not always possible. Many employers offer staff accomodation, so inquire during your application process. The local newspapers, bulletin boards around town and word of mouth are your best medians. The Banff Crag and Canyon newspaper comes out on Tuesdays and the Rocky Mountain Outlook newspaper comes out on Thursdays. Be the first one with your hands on those and start calling!
