I want to see the result of my program in characters, but the UART just prints out weird numbers. What is the reason ?

The default representation of the UART screen (‘View | Hardware Peripherals | UARTn’) is hexadecimal numbers. Just select the ‘ASCII’ radio button in the left box above the buffer and you will see real characters.
