I want to run 6 voip lines, do I need a T1 connection or cable good enough?
voip t1 Best answer: Answer by AtlGuy If all lines may be in use at the same time, you probably need a T-1 line. If you’re going to have six phone lines, your best bet is an integrated T-1 provider that uses VOIP technology. This way, they will terminate all six of your lines into a punchdown block which can use standard phone jacks or plug into a system. This way, you’ll only have one box for all of your VOIP lines instead of having a box for each line. Plus you’ll get the benefit of having the T-1 line + the six phone lines on the same bill. Check out http://metrot1.com/content/view/47/62/ for pricing information. The reason you need a faster connection is because VOIP uses up to 53k PER line. Therefore, if all six lines were in use, you’d be running 318k of your bandwidth in phone calls. Most DSL and cable providers advertise UP TO 384k in upload bandwidth but typically run closer to 280-300k. You wouldn’t have enough bandwidth to use both internet and phone.
