I want to know more about unsubscribe lists. I understand that sometimes “unsubcribing” sometimes puts me on more mailing lists – what should I do?
If the offending email has come from a Company that you are familiar with that you have signed up for a mailing service, and it has an unsubscribe method you should try it out. If you are already receiving the spam, you should try to get off their mailing list. Add them to your block sender list, and unsubscribe. This process usually takes 5-10 days for them to remove you off their mailing list. But never reply to an unknown source to be removed. All that does is give them a “valid” email address instead of the guessed at ones they normally use. Also, since many spammers use fake email addresses as their “remove” addresses, many times your remove request will never even be seen by the spammer, and may in fact inundate an innocent person who the spammer decided to designate as the removee.
