A. Actuarial science deals mainly with calculation of insurance risks and premiums. It also deals with application of mathematical and economic analysis for decision-making in insurance, investment, financial planning and management and so on. Those who have graduated or postgraduated in actuarial science will be eligible for actuaries in the insurance business field. This profession needs intensive training in mathematics, statistics, accounting and insurance probabilities. The career scope is limited to the insurance industry. Insurance companies, especially the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), provide job opportunities to qualified actuaries. It represents a relatively small proportion of insurance employment.
