You could look at the red book tab on interest groups. There you will find the Environmental Health Coalition and various organizations specializing in the coast such as Coastkeeper and Surfrider. You might also apply to the state agency, the California Coastal Commission. However, you should check on the issues you would be working on to be sure you could write academic papers about the type of work you would be doing.
