i want to ask in facial N paralysis we make facial exploration and we can make facial N graft how does that occur and from which nerve we take the graft and doesn that affect the other nerve?
here is a difference between exploration of the facial nerve which means exposing the nerve and finding out what is wrong on the other hand grafting means using another nerve to continue the cut nerve in which a segment has been lost we usually use the sural nerve in the past but now we use a nerve close by called the great auricular nerve as it is of approx the same caliber as the facial nerve these are sensory nerves that supply small skin dermatomes that when removed will be overlapped by other nerve dermatomes and so will not affect the original site of aquisition (by Prof Dr Hassan wahba)
