I viewed an apartment that I really liked, but some things werent in working order. What should I do?
If you carefully inspect any apartment or house, you are bound to find a few things that need repair. Some landlords will say up front that they plan on fixing a few things or painting the place before you move in. Regardless of whether the landlord is promising to make repairs, you should get all agreements in writing, BEFORE you sign a lease. Additionally, landlords are responsible for fixing anything that breaks during the time of your occupancy. However, you may have to pay for damages if it was due to your misuse. Additionally, no landlord should have you sign a lease whereby you waive your right to have a habitable and clean residence. This is a violation Vermont State Law.
