I use Internet Explorer. What should I do when Microsoft discontinues security fixes to the Microsoft VM on January 2, 2004?
The Microsoft VM is used to run Java applications in Internet Explorer. After Microsoft ceases to update the Microsoft VM, there will be no remedy available if new methods to compromise the security of the Microsoft VM are discovered. This has the potential to put your computer at risk from malicious Java applications. We recommend that Internet Explorer users replace the Microsoft VM with another Java Virtual Machine (or JRE), such as the Java Plug-in. While it may be possible to continue to use the Microsoft VM without incident, please note that Microsoft is recommending the removal of the Microsoft VM after January 2, 2004 and is currently developing solutions to remove the Microsoft VM from individual computers and Local Area Networks.
