After surgery, when the catheter is removed, most men will experience a loss of urine control to a certain degree. Most will regain their muscle strength and be dry within two to four months. Some undergarments, such as diapers or pads, are now available in pharmacies for you to use as protection. They are discreet, comfortable and not too bulky. Special pelvic exercises, called Kegels, can also be done after the surgery to improve continence. Should heavy incontinence persist, other treatments are available such as medication or biofeedback exercises. See our section on incontinence for more information.
