I understand our new Results Management Guide draws on a standard called “Managing successful projects using Prince 2”. Why was this chosen?
Two internal factors did drive the development of the Results Management Guide: 1) the need to reflect the latest changes deriving from the Atlas implementation; and 2) the recent changes resulting from the Simplification & Harmonization initiative. The drafting process gave the opportunity to incorporate an international standard project management method developed by the UK government, Managing Successful Project using PRINCE2. PRINCE2™ was chosen because out of the existing project management industry standards and practices it was the “best fit” compared to UNDP’s mandate and business needs. The standard needed to be public domain, so as to avoiding copyright license fees or other arrangements that would “lock in” to a private company’s product. PRINCE2 enables an organization like UNDP to implement across its field network a single, common, structured method for project management, while providing a recognized certification for its staff.
