I tried to read the charts on the Results page, but what in the world is a Haplogroup, and what do all those numbers and letters mean?
The Haplogroup simply tells to which major branch of the human family tree an ancestral line belongs. This is a “deep ancestral” grouping—in other words, it refers to the ancestral father (for Y-DNA tests) or mother (for mitochondrial DNA tests) from thousands of years ago, long before surnames came into use.
