I think people who are deeply religious should be examples to the rest of us..they should be kinder, more helpful, more tolerant and more accepting human beings…to honor their faith. Do you think that is a reasonable expectation?
While I agree that people with sincere and deep religious beliefs should logically manifest that in their actions, I don’t agree that I should “expect” that. I don’t think I have a right to expect anyone to behave in a certain fashion, except that they should comply with the law. If I feel that a person’s professed beliefs contradict their actions, it’s always quite possible I don’t understand their convictions or that I am making a judgment out of context. While I am not a religious person, I think each person has to make his own decisions about a relationship with a higher being, if they believe there is one, and I consider this a deeply personal relationship. I cannot reasonably make any judgments about that individual’s manner of living those convictions. Also, I have no way of knowing to what extent that person may be struggling to make his actions a true reflection of his convictions.
