I submitted my resume to an employer 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything yet. How long should I wait to follow up?
While there is no absolute time frame that you should follow up within (unless one was specified by the employer), two weeks is an appropriate amount of time. It usually takes this long to organize and review the incoming resumes and to schedule interviews. When you follow up, don’t just ask about the status of the decision-making process, but also reiterate your interest in a position. You can follow-up by phone, e-mail or letter. Ideally, you should follow up with the person you submitted your resume to. In your contact, reintroduce yourself, reiterate your interest in the position and company, and offer to provide additional information, which can help to move you to the front of the hiring manager’s thinking or your resume to the top of the pile.
