I was singeing the end of the serving for my peep sight, and I got a little careless and caught the string a bit, and burned through two of the little strands that make up each main strand. I know that is not the answer you want to hear, but effectively you have killed four strands because the strands are looped and since you cut two of them, the other side of the loop will be carrying less load too.
